Thread: Detriot soft locker

  1. I dont disagree with that, But if you are locked up front and trying to make a turn the wheels still turn at the same rate and the outside tire has farther to travel. this is why you get bind. get rid of the bind ( disenguage the front or front arb ) and it turns with no problems. Ill have to give it a try next time out but I dont think I was hitting the brakes. And I have done front digs on the d30 without the boom. that said I dont hammer on it, no boom so far.

  2. I understand what you are saying Dan. In my experience with winter driving and lockers I have learned this. The best steering I get is when both lockers are off, when I engage the rear it starts pushing through the turns, and when both are engaged it steers better. So I would say the order goes....open/open best steering, locked/locked second, open/locked worst. Don't have the ability to turn on the front with out the rear but I would guess it would be somewhere between open/open and locked/locked.

As for your rig Big Dog I don't know if the vacuum was working properly or not at the comp. But I don't know if you really need to replace the two piece shafts for strength. I would posi-lock it, order a passenger side outer, inner shaft for 95(should be the big joint). The shift fork is sometimes a weak link but I might be able to find you a machined steel one. Then lock the diff. when driving on the road in the winter you might have to find out what works for you. Maybe leaving the posi lock off and only letting the driver tire pull.

At this point it will come down to how much $ I have when it is time to get the locker. Would like an electric one, but will settle for a lunch box. Worst case, I run it for a while and upgrade to an electric later on.

  4. Definitely look into the one you get. Not sure how many are out there but I am I would look for one that uses pins and not clutch disc to lock.
